Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update (3/2/2020)

UPDATE, MARCH 2, 2020, 3:50 PST

COVID-19 and Postponing the 2020 NatCap Symposium

At this time, we have not set a new date for the Symposium and we don’t expect that we will be able to do so immediately. Broadening travel restrictions and public health recommendations have driven our postponement decision, and they also limit our ability to make concrete future plans. We thank you for your understanding through this uncertainty.

COVID-19 and Postponing the 2020 NatCap Symposium

Dear Natural Capital Symposium Attendees,

Today, with great regret, we made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Natural Capital Symposium. We have been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, and consulting with collaborators globally and health experts here at Stanford University. The health and wellbeing of our wonderful partnership, and the global community we aspire to serving with our work, is our top priority. In this current state of rapid spread and uncertainty, and ever increasing restrictions around travel and large convenings, we must postpone until some better time in the future.

We are processing full refunds on all registration fees; you should expect to receive a notice of your reimbursement within one week of today. On hotel, flight, or other bookings related to your Symposium travel, please reach out to those businesses directly to process your cancellation.

We deeply regret that we will not be gathering with you this March and we know that this decision represents a real inconvenience for many of you. Let’s remember the power in effort—through our network of partner institutions, and all the many heroic individual contributors. We have tremendous momentum, resilience, and strength of spirit – and the challenges of COVID-19 make us ever more intensely devoted to securing people and the biosphere. We’ll build on all our progress and plans in hosting our next major convening.

Each year, we look forward to this inspiring opportunity to connect with our interdisciplinary community of changemakers. We hope you will join us when we are able to reconvene, and we look forward to seeing you then.

If you have questions about our decision or the reimbursement process, please contact our team at or refer to the 2020 Symposium page

With sincere thanks for your understanding—and wishing health for you, your loved ones, and our global community,

Gretchen, Mary, Anne, Lori, and the NatCap Team
